I started teaching myself programming for fun in highschool, where I later took some optional courses (at LMRL).
One of the projects was to code an explorer of the Mandelbrot set, often called Mandelbrot fractal.
This program was realized using Microsoft Visual Basic (VB was mandatory), you can download it here.
The following screenshot from the program resembles The Great Wave off Kanagawa.
A lot of time was spent working on performance (real and perceived) to make the explorer usable. Of course this being my first big program, do not await too much from it... Some of the program features are:
